Idleholt Terms of Service
Last updated: October 9, 2026
This is a draft. Text marked [DECISION NEEDED] has not been decided yet and must be filled in before these terms are published.
About these terms
These terms cover your use of Idleholt, the game at idleholt.com, run by Idleholt ("we", "us"). By creating an account or playing, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
The game
Idleholt is an idle woodland skilling game that you play in your web browser. It is free to play. There are no real-money purchases; the coins in the game have no value outside it. [DECISION NEEDED 23: whether to reserve the right to add paid features later]
Idleholt is still being developed. Features, balance, and content may change. [DECISION NEEDED 17: whether you may reset or wipe players' progress during development, and whether you will give notice first]
Your account
- You need an account to play. You sign in with a link sent to your email address, or with Google if that option is shown.
- Keep access to your email account secure: anyone who can open your sign-in emails can sign in as you.
- [DECISION NEEDED 4: minimum age to play, and whether younger players need a parent's permission]
- [DECISION NEEDED 10: whether a person may have more than one account, and whether accounts may be shared or sold]
Display names
You choose a display name the first time you sign in. Other players see it in Holtgrove, in chat, and on the hiscores. The game enforces these rules:
- 3 to 12 characters: letters, numbers, spaces, or underscores, with at least one letter.
- Names must be unique (ignoring upper and lower case).
- Names that contain blocked words, or that pose as staff (such as "admin", "moderator", "system", or "Idleholt"), are refused.
- A name cannot be changed once chosen.
Chat
Holtgrove has a public chat that everyone online can read. Chat is not saved. The game automatically:
- limits each message to 80 characters and shortens longer ones;
- allows one message or emote every 2 seconds;
- removes control characters and characters that change text direction;
- replaces words that match its word filter with asterisks.
The filter is basic and will miss things. You are responsible for what you say. [DECISION NEEDED 10: conduct rules, such as no harassment, hate speech, threats, sharing personal information, spam, or impersonation] [DECISION NEEDED 19: how players report others, and what moderation you will do]
Fair play and saves
- Your progress is saved to your account. The server checks each save: it refuses saves that are impossible (for example, more coins than the game allows, or an axe above your level).
- Experience above what the time since your last save could have earned is not accepted. The extra is removed, and a record of it is kept with your account.
- The hiscores show only experience the server has accepted.
- Each account can bring one save from before accounts existed online, once.
- "Reset save" in the game replaces your progress with a fresh start, including the copy on our servers. It cannot be undone.
- Do not edit saves, tamper with the game or its servers, or use bots or scripts to play. [DECISION NEEDED 10: whether automation, multiple tabs, or other play styles are allowed or banned]
The game's content
[DECISION NEEDED 18: who owns the game, its art, and its code; the licence you give players to play; and any rights you need in display names and chat]
Suspending or closing accounts
[DECISION NEEDED 8: when you may suspend or close accounts (for example, for cheating or abuse), whether you give warning, and what happens to the account's data]
You can stop playing at any time. [DECISION NEEDED 11: how players ask for their account to be deleted, and how quickly it is done]
No warranty
[DECISION NEEDED 6: warranty disclaimer wording, for example that the game is provided "as is", may be unavailable, and progress may be lost]
Limits on liability
[DECISION NEEDED 7: limitation of liability wording]
Governing law and disputes
[DECISION NEEDED 3: governing law, and the courts or venue for disputes]
[DECISION NEEDED 5: dispute process, for example contact first, then courts, small claims, or arbitration]
Other terms
[DECISION NEEDED 24: any other legal clauses you want, such as indemnity, severability, or entire agreement]
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, we will update this page and the date at the top. [DECISION NEEDED 9: how and how far ahead players are told about changes, and when changes take effect]
